CURRENT PROJECTS

The HIV Care Network has several ongoing projects, and organizes events for consumers, HIV/AIDS services providers, and community members throughout the year.

Consumer Involvement Committee Projects

Consumer Involvement is working on a Youth HIV Awareness campaign to increase knowledge of HIV infection in the community.

Projects

Care Coordination Committee Projects

Department of Social Services (DSS) Information Sessions

Care Coordination is working to increase knowledge and communication between local Department of Social Services (DSS) offices and community members. This committee is reaching out to develop discussions about available services and eligibility criteria with local DSS offices in each of the seven counties. The target start date for these meetings is December 2009.

Faith Initiative

Committee members are engaging the Faith Community in an in initiative to reduce stigma and to recognize the spiritual component of HIV Care. Seminars with Faith community leaders are planned for fall 2009.

Policy Advocacy and Education Committee Projects

Legislative Emails

This committee is developing relationships with local leaders by increasing communication between the Network and our representatives. Electronic updates from the Network are being sent to local legislators on a monthly schedule to keep our leaders informed of the Network’s activities and events.

Opinion Paper

This Committee is developing an opinion paper which will outline the need to address services for HIV and Hepatitis C in the Hudson Valley. The paper will be shared with local and regional representatives for educational purposes, and the Committee intends to begin a dialogue about expanding services in our community.
